The timidity of this generation is expressed inwardly in 2 fears:
1. I fear I have nothing to give
2. I fear I have so much to lose
This takes us back to an age old truth that you do not have anything at all to lose until you have something to give, and once you give what you have, you gain more than you thought you had to lose.

That reminds me of something I read in a C.S. Lewis book, "God on the Dock" or some such. Google couldn't find it for me so I will have paraphrase:
The man who has everything and has Jesus has scarcely more then the man who has nothing and has Jesus.
